Your teeth have a busy summer schedule. They need to:
- Eat the delicious gilled fare of your summer catch
- Schedule your summer dentist appointment
- Share that big smile with your family and friends
But, don’t overwork your teeth by giving them one of these summer jobs:
Your friends may think it’s a cool when you pop open a beer or pop bottle with your teeth, but your dentist thinks otherwise. Biting down on a hard, foreign object can actually crack your tooth or cut your gums.
Ice-cold drinks can counter the summer heat. But after your drink is finished, don’t chomp on the remaining ice. The repetitive crunching motion can create microscopic fractures on your teeth and grind down your enamel, making your teeth more susceptible to decay.
We get that you can’t wait to open that bag of Dakota Style Kettle chips, but this is a job for fingers or scissors, not your teeth. Consistent tearing and ripping can damage your enamel and cause premature tooth wear.
Remember, your teeth are good for eating, speaking and smiling. But they are never good substitutes for tools. Keep them safe!
